Poetry Moon 26.8.-1.9.

READ art!

Helsinki’s only literary festival, Poetry Moon, will enliven peoples lives for the seventh time this summer. The ever-growing festival will offer a varied programme for readers, writers and listeners of all ages.

In order to stay alive and well poetry has to connect with its immediate social environment and other forms of art. This summer Poetry Moon will for the first time expand to cover all forms of literature, including prose, theatre and song. The themes of interaction and dialogue between forms of art will receive more attention than in previous festivals.

The preliminary festival, Rendez-vous, will present the fruits of theatrical exchange between Finland and France. In Gloria’s night poetry will meet modern dance, greet choral music, embrace music and animation. The co-operative concert between Viapori Jazz and Poetry Moon, Vierailta mailta (From Foreign Lands), will intoduce texts by immigrant poets laid down to music. Runo kotiin (House Poetry) -series will bring to life the traditions of literary salons’ and choir-recitacion along the lines of Runoraadin runokuorosota (Runoraati’s Poetry choir war). The Kindlings - An Artistic Family’s Century -discussion aims to build bridges between film and literature. The freedom of speech and expression themed An Evening Dressen In Black will offer excerpts from forbidden books, similarily themed music and fado-songs composed to the texts of Fernando Pessoa.

Put on your spectacles, break down barriers and enjoy!
